Greater Things Are Yet To Come
In Isaiah 28 the Lord promises that the foundation of the church (Christ) will be unshakable. I’ve found that this best describes the church in Haiti. After the earthquake, an American man told a Haitian pastor, “I’m so sorry your church was destroyed.” The pastor responded, “No sir. You’re wrong. The church was not destroyed. God’s church stands strong.” What we’ve seen and heard this week in Haiti cannot fully be explained. God is working in ways we could never have...

What an incredible first day of ministry here in Haiti. A lot of emotions as I look over this city that has been absolutely torn apart from the earthquake. Nearly 2 years later many parts of this city are left unchanged, as if the disaster had just struck. Everyone we’ve spoken with lost someone. 1 out of every 10 in the city of Port Au Prince was killed by the earthquake. There are kids here in the orphanage who lost their parents. A huge majority of these people are still homeless, living in tents....

“Parachurch ministries exist to facilitate the ministry of the local church…Good parachurch ministries FACILITATE the ministry of the church. BAD parachurch takes ministry from a local church and does it for her.” – J.D. Greear, The Summit Church Over the past 16 years we have taken short-term mission teams all over the world. God has faithfully opened the door for us to preach the Gospel in over 40 countries. We’ve taken over 500 volunteers with us from 50 different local churches. We...

In John 17 we see that one of the last things on the heart and mind of the Lord Jesus before going to the cross was the unity of God’s family. He prayed that His Father would make us one. I’m not sure that we always understand what that looks like, but 10 years ago I got a glimpse of it. September 11, 2001. I’ll never forget where I was and how I found out. I was about 5,000 miles away from home – in the southern tip of Brazil working with some some wonderful pastors and churches there....

I’m writing this report at 36,000 feet above the African continent. We have just left Uganda with our team of 36 volunteers and are headed back to the US. This team worked long and difficult days to bring the Gospel of Christ to remote areas of Uganda. These sweet Ugandans were thrilled to get medical treatment and much personal attention. One dear Ugandan lady stands out in my mind. She went through the clinic to get medical treatment and then stopped to hear the Gospel from one of our team members. She very...

I have been to Uganda, Africa 20 times over the last 15 years. I have often been asked, “why Uganda? Why do you keep going there?” Here is the story in a nut shell. In 1982 I was a young seminary graduate just starting out in ministry. My mentor professor Dr. Roy Fish recommended that I read a book called A Distant Grief. I didn’t know what the book was about but eagerly started to read it because of his recommendation. The book not only challenged my life but also broke my heart. A Distant Grief is about...
